The Bike Shed will be on hand to provide free bike check-ups whilst Stagecoach and Transition Exeter will be there to offer advice on how to live happily with less car use in your life. Co-cars will have information on Exeter Car Club and the pay-as-you-go motoring services it offers businesses to reduce costs and provide staff with access to a car when at work.
Devon County Council will be able to give you information on the car-sharing scheme and Exeter Sustainable Business Network will be advising on what businesses can do to reduce costs and carbon emissions from business travel.
The event is to thank people who regularly or are trying out car-free commuting. Making cycling and walking part of your daily commute has many cost and health benefits. Travelling by public transport can also save people money and all of the forms of commute mentioned reduce carbon pollution and congestion.
Cars can be an essential part of life and so Co-cars will also be providing efficient driving lessons. This can help you to achieve between 5 and 25% fuel savings for the average driver. There is evidence that fuel efficient driving increases driver awareness and therefore also the safety of your clients. The car-free commuter breakfast is part of world-wide Car Free Day which happens every year on 22nd September. More information on other events in Devon to mark the day can be found at devon.gov.uk/devoncarfreeday.
Stagecoach Devon is also supporting Devon Car Free Day by reducing the cost of its Explorer ticket which entitles passengers to unlimited travel on the Stagecoach network in Devon. The ticket, which normally costs £6.90, will be just £3.50 on 22 September.
